A denture is a removable appliance that consists of a gum-colored base and artificial teeth. At Town Center Dental, we recommend dentures to patients missing most or all of their natural teeth. Patients wear complete dentures to replace all the teeth in the upper or lower arch, and partial dentures to replace only a few missing teeth.
Modern-day dentures are crafted to look and feel as natural as possible. They are designed and adjusted to fit perfectly into the mouth and stay in place while talking and eating. Patients should remove their dentures every night to clean them and store them in water or a soaking solution to keep them from warping. They should also visit our dentist regularly to check the fit of their dentures and get new dentures if they become loose over time.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing. They are held in place by suction or adhesives and should be removed for cleaning and when sleeping. The gums need to heal before dentures can be worn.
Full dentures may feel uncomfortable at first and some patients experience soreness as their gums adjust, but any discomfort should subside as the mouth adapts to the dentures. Complete dentures require regular relining as the gum line changes with age.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are recommended when only some of the natural teeth are missing. They are held in place with clasps attached to the adjacent natural teeth and rest on the gums.
Dentures are removable appliances that replace all or some of the teeth in the upper or lower arch. Typically, these appliances are made from acrylic and porcelain or resin materials that replicate the appearance of natural teeth and gums.
The fabrication process typically begins with impressions of the upper and lower arches. These impressions are used to design the final denture appliance. Once the denture is ready, it may need to be adjusted to ensure a proper fit. After any necessary adjustments are made, the denture is inserted in the mouth and the patient can enjoy their new smile.
Each patient is unique, and our dentist will work with you to determine the type of denture that best suits your needs. Visit Town Center Dental at 301 E Cook St, Ste F, Santa Maria, CA 93454, or call (805) 925-2652 to schedule a consultation.
